Renee Zellweger has signed on to play the lead role in a biopic on Beatrix Potter, the creator of Peter Rabbit. Miss Potter, to be directed by Chris Noonan of Babe fame, will be mostly live-action with some animation woven in. Adam Shankman has been hired to helm the Hollywood remake of Hairspray. The verdict comes at the end of an extensive search for a director, after the departure of original directors Jerry Mitchell and Jack O'Brien. Shankman is a Julliard-trained dancer-turned director of broad Steve Martin films like Cheaper by the Dozen and Bringing Down the House; producer Craig Zadan predicts Shankman will "be a talent magnet for cast." The film will be based on the Broadway show which was in turn based on the John Waters film of the same name; John Travolta is expected to play the roke of Edna Turnblad, immortalized in the original by Divine.
Tommy O'Haver, the man responsible for the brutally under-appreciated teen comedy Get Over It, has signed on to directBreakfast With Tiffany. Not a remake of the similarly-titled Blake Edwards/Audrey Hepburn classic, Tiffany will be based on a memoir by Edwin John Wintle, and will follow a middle-aged gay New Yorker's relationship with his 13-year-old niece.
