Joaquin PhoenixAccording to an interview in this week's Time Out London, it wasn't playing Johnny Cash that drove Joaquin Phoenix to the bottle - it was leaving him that did. After spending more time with Cash (not only playing him, but also immersing himself in the man's music and life) for Walk the Line than he had on any other role, the actor says that when filming ended, he "felt abandoned...totally cut loose without a lifeline." Aw. And so he did what Johnny would have done, and drowned his sorrows in drink.

Phoenix sorted himself out, though, and is dried out, done with rehab, and on the promotion trail for Walk the Line. Both the film and Phoenix's performance in it are getting great reviews based on festival screenings; we can all weigh in when it opens in the US on November 18.
