As a long-time Wong Kar Wai fan, I was a bit dissapointed by 2046; as Wong's imagery becomes more breathtakingly controlled, the ideas behind them seem to fritter away. It's an undeniably gorgeous film, but it works best if thought of as a two-hour moving painting. So Blake at Cinema Strikes Back has figured out the ideal way to view it: as a series of wildy impressive widescreen stills. Keep in mind that I cropped off about half of the above shot to fit it into our frame; you can see the whole thing, and many more, here.
