It is while sitting in a darkened movie theater for two hours and enduring so many sloppy wannabes, that the sound of Richard Harris belting that schmaltzy, epic lament "MacArthur Park" always seems to get stuck in my craw:
I don't think that I can take it,
'Cause it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again!
So must the producers of Waiting... bemoan their sad and anticlimactic throwaway of a movie (which actually took five years to make). Trying way too hard to capture some of the enduring cult appeal that Mike Judge's Office Space has enjoyed since its release in 1999 is this slacker coulda-been comedy which details a day in the life of a Friday's-like restaurant called Shenanigan's (or Tchotchke's in Office Space). Unfortunately, the Homerism "It's funny 'cause it's true" is only going to apply to the handful of ticket buyers who have worked in foodservice, as the rest of us, especially after seeing what goes on behind the kitchen door, will be more horrified than entertained.
