As Karina suggested when she reported on Paramount's recent decision to support Sony's Blu-ray DVD format, the choice would really only be "stunning" if it was, in fact, a choice. Instead, Paramount will cover its ass by producing DVDs in both Blu-ray and the rival HD DVD format, which essentially means nothing has changed.
Today comes the news that Warner Brothers will join Paramount in being revolutionarily cautious, producing DVDs in both formats. Though the battle between HD DVD and Blu-ray is portrayed as an epic death match, it won't be very interesting if everybody just keeps picking both. Where's the fun in that?
While Universal still is officially in the HD-DVD camp, no jaws will drop in shock if they shortly announce that they, too, have decided to embrace both formats.
