Guy Pearce; Ed ExleyThere's an interesting article in the Herald-Tribune this morning about the relationship between books and movies, specifically the effect they have on one another. Reading L.A. Confidentialbefore seeing the movie, for example, gave me a very different impression of Bud White than the one held by people who watched the movie and then read the book.

That said, that movie, while well-regarded, is perhaps not yet ubiquitous enough to make all readers of Ellroy's novel immediately think of Russell Crowe. Eventually, though, classic movies totally take over their sources - even if you haven't seen Gone with the Wind, for example, it's impossible to even pick up the book without immediately thinking of Clark Gable.
