I went to see The 40-Year-Old-Virgin tonight with my mom. Yeah, I know, it's been out awhile, and Karina already reviewed it. I know, I know. See, one of the things about this gig is that I have to see a lot of movies, which is great for me because I love movies. When you have to see a lot of them for work, though, you tend to be a little more discriminating about what you watch just for fun. If I watched every movie I want to, my eyes would burn out of my head. And how gross would that be?
Anyhow, so tonight my "fun" movie was The 40-Year-Old Virgin. I laughed my ass off, along with everyone else in the theater, which was, surprisingly, packed. This was a 10PM showing of a film that's been out for almost two months! The thing that surprised me the most, however, was the reaction of the audience members after the film. Most of the people there were couples on dates, and, holy cow! There were couples making out passionately in their seats, couples walking out the theater kissing and with their arms all around each other, and much grabbing of asses and other assorted body parts. Even the octogenarian couples were holding hands and looking frisky.
Seriously, it just never would have occurred to me that a film about a 40-year-old, action-figure collecting, video-game addicted geek who's never had sex would be the hottest date flick in the theater. Because I wasn't seeing any amorous behavior out of the crowd coming out of A History of Violence. Hot date night? Go with the virgin. I'm just saying.
