Starting December 16, the New York Times will be handing out a free movie magazine to theater-goers in handful of cities. The magazine, creatively entitled OnMovies, will consist primarily of repackaged film stories from the Times newspaper, and will initially only be offered in eight cities (including New York, LA, Chicago, and San Francisco).
Since the magazine is free, we probably should keep our whining about the fact that fully half of each issue will consist of ads to ourselves, huh? Actually, that little quibble aside, this sounds like a great idea - the New York Times published a lot of unusually thoughtful, intelligent articles on film, and it'll be great to have them collected in one place. Right alongside all the American Pie 40 ads we could ever wish for.
