James DoohanOn December 6, the (cremated) remains of James Doohan - along with those of 120 others - will be blasted into space by Space Services Inc. [Insert your own "Beam me up" witticism here.] Doohan clearly took his Star Trek role very seriously, because this last journey was dictated in his will. In order to enable fans to take part in the event, Doohan's family will hold a memorial service near Vandenberg Air Force Base the day of the launch. Anyone can go, but you'd be well-served by carefully considering your wardrobe - after all, "some fans are expected to attend in the formal white suit of a Star Fleet commander." All I'm saying is that you wouldn't want to be feel under dressed.

Fans who can't make it out to LA for the service can participate virtually, by writing tributes to Doohan. Space Services says that all of the tributes will be "digitized," and will be sent with Scotty as he hurtles into space for the last time.
