Ahmet ZappaAhmet Zappa (you may know him as Frank's balder, crazier son) is suddenly desperately wanted in Hollywood: he's written an (unpublished) children's book called Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless that was recently the subject of a "fierce bidding war." The war was eventually won by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films (the presence of whom suggests the war was probably very bloody, and featured lots of huge explosions), who wound up paying $1.5 million for the book, which has been sent into development.

I know I tend to be really cynical about these buying-books-on-spec ventures, but listen to the plot of this sucker: "It tells the story of a brother and sister who discover they are descended from a long line of monster-hunters. They are forced to get over sibling squabbles and see off a diabolical creature threatening the universe." Um, hell yes! As long as it doesn't get turned all cutesy and dreadful, this movie could be fantastic. What kid doesn't want to be be able to crush the monsters under the bed (and in the basement, and the closet)?
