Rights for an Iron Man movie are likely to revert back to Marvel after two plus years of inactivity on the project at New Line Cinema, according to Variety. New Line had been reporting a 2006 release date until a few months ago, when they pushed it back to 2007. At this point, it seems as though New Line will opt out of creating the film, which would allow Marvel to sell rights to the project to other interested buyers.
This news is sure to be a disappointment to Marvel fans, who have long been desiring some silver screen action from the Avengers. Maybe it’s not so bad, though. After all, Comic Book Movies says that Tom Cruise was interested in playing the lead for New Line’s production. I mean, really, which is worse- Iron Man as played by Tom Cruise, or no Iron Man at all?
