Cinescape is reporting that Summit Entertainment has picked up rights to Death Ship, a short story written by Richard Matheson in 1953 for Fantastic Story Magazine. If this title sounds familiar to you, that may be thanks to The Twilight Zone. Matheson wrote an adaptation of his story for the Zone which originally aired in 1960. In the episode, three astronauts land an American space ship onto a new, uncharted planet in the distant future of 1997 (that bit is probably going to need updating). The astronauts are amazed to discover the wreckage of a ship identical to their own, and upon further inspection they also find the dead bodies of three astronauts- their own. After some pretty quirky hallucinations, they eventually realize that they are in, fact, dead. The next instant finds them back in their ship, about to land on the planet.
