It's been a downbeat week for me, movie-wise. I wasn't able to get tickets to see The Cassidy Kids as a work-in-progress ... I got the email an hour after it was sent and the film was already sold out. I didn't get into the Butt-Numb-A-Thon, which I have always thought would be fun to try once. I didn't go to the screenings tied in with the Texas Book Festival because we were out of town. And I couldn't afford the Alamo's An American in ParisFrench feast. Part of me feels like I'm missing all the unique, weird film events in Austin. So sad.
But this is simply not true. Just look at all the movie events and special screenings in town this week. And if all else fails, I still need to see Mirrormask and The Squid and the Whale. I don't have time to see all the events listed below, so it's silly to fret about missing a few special screenings.
- Austin wouldn't be Austin without a film festival every weekend. The Austin Asian Film Festival continues through Sunday, Nov. 6. Make that more than one festival: The second annual OUTer Film Festival, featuring gay and lesbian sf/fantasy films, takes place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Hideout Theater.
