Sean ConneryThe American Film Institute has announced that it will bestow its highest honor upon Sean Connery, awarding him its Life Achievement Award in a ceremony next summer. According to the chairman of AFI's board of trustees, Connery is "an artist of the highest order."

Wow, really? I know everyone loves him as Bond and all, and he's doubtless a solid actor, but the man has never really struck me as a master thespian. Seeing as how previous honorees include names like Orson Welles, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese and Meryl Streep, however, I appear to be very, very wrong on this one. (Nothing new there.) I guess as long as they show a clip from Medicine Man at the ceremony, I'll be ok.
