BeyonceIn a move that's simultaneously very generous and a clever promotion, Dreamworks recently announced their decision to foot the licensing bill for "all amateur productions" of Dreamgirls in the US and Canada staged in 2006. Obviously, the studio's motive here is entirely financial - if people participate in or see a show on stage, it's human nature to want to go see a movie of the same, and Dreamworks is trying to prime the pump for the 2006 release of their version of the show. But at the same time, their money will make it possible for schools to put on shows they might not otherwise have been able to afford (or to put the money they save on licensing towards other things) - very cool.
