- Bob Weinstein's Dimension has picked up North American rights on Dead or Alive, directed by The Transporter's Corey Yuen and based on the videogame of the same name. The film stars ex-models Devon Aoki and Jamie Pressley (as well as Eric Roberts, who certainly has some experience with models), and it should premiere next afall.
- Jessica Simpson is in talks to play the
bimbo"desired damsel" role in Employee of the Month, a comedy about two dorky discount-store co-workers fighting for the titular honor, as well as for the affections of the same girl.
- In an interview with Business Week, corporate raider Carl Icahn announced plans to shake up the Time Warner board - and he's not above using force. Icahn says he's "forming a slate of proposed directors to replace some or all of the board through a proxy fight, which could include [Time Warner CEO Richard] Parson's ouster." If it goes down, it'll happen at Time Warner's annual board meeting in May.
- David Rooney steals most of the angles that I was planning to work in his review of Rent: "While Rent is not as obsolete as other film versions of zeitgeist-specific musicals – like Godspell or Hair – nor as leaden as last year's Phantom of the Opera it feels past its prime."
