Hustle and FlowHustle & Flow, while a big winner at Sundance and the recipient of generally positive reviews, nevertheless made a paltry $22 million at the box office. Since it cost less than $10 million to make, this was surely great news to director Craig Brewer and the film's producers. It does not, however, reveal a rabid fanbase, desperate for a sequel. Not that anyone lets that sort of thing stop them these days. So, according to star Terrence Howard, a sequel is coming - and soon. It's already been written, and the entire cast is reportedly on board as well; shooting is due to start in the next month or so.

I suppose if they can keep the budget down and are ok with pretty paltry profits, there's nothing horribly wrong with the idea. But usually when a studio finances a sequel, they're not in it for paltry profits - it'll be interesting to see how this one shakes out. (Or even if it does - Brewer is currently filming the potentially explosive Black Snake Moan, so it seems unlikely he'll be available to do anything else before the end of the year.)
