Remember that whole mini-outrage over the multiple endings of Pride and Prejudice? Focus Features, responding to gads of conclusive research (read: one or two test screenings), decided to give the American version of the film a "sweeter" ending than the one seen in the rest of the world. Even though some Austenists have protested the US ending, in which Lizzie and Mr. Darcy embrace, UK viewers are apparently up in arms that they don't get to see it. Now, after much petitioning from fans, Focus has agreed to release the US print in selected UK theaters starting November 25. I guess this should give the angry Austen faithful hope – it would seem only logical to follow that move with a microrelease of the sugar-free UK version in the States.
