Just days after Universal announced their somewhat-surprising new deal to distribute content over P2P network Peer Impact, Fox has taken the safe route, joining a growing list of studios to hook up with online distributor MovieLink. MovieLink now has distribution rights to titles from each major studio – and they couldn't be prouder. "The end of 2005 and into 2006 is really a watershed year" for legal movie downloading, said Jim Ramo, chief executive at Movielink. "I think you're beginning to see a snowball effect."But here's where this new frontier stuff hits a brick wall: because Fox doesn't own the internet distribution rights to the Star Wars films, its most profitable (and surely most pirated) series of titles will be excluded from the deal.
