Rufus SewellThere's nothing Hollywood loves more than a good morality tale, so it pretty much amounts to a miracle that Michael Apted got hold of William Wilberforce before Steven Spielberg did. Amazing Grace, Apted's tale of the 18th century, anti-slavery MP just started filming this week, and added a couple of big names to its cast as it did so. Bringing even greater stature to the already substantial cast are the magnificent but criminally underused Rufus Sewell and the always reliable Michael Gambon. The pair join Ioan Gruffudd, who plays Wilberforce, and Albert Finney, Wilberforce's "confidante John Newton."

Based on cast alone, thing is thing is rivaling the Harry Potter series for sheer mass of substantial British stars. Hopefully its actual quality will be equally impressive.
