sundance.jpg"There can be no confusion between the films we're showing and anything the studios would have even considered making," says Geoffrey Gilmore, director of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. He and his cohorts announced the lineup for the January blitz this evening, and whilst it's true that not a single major director is repped in the Dramatic Competition, and none of the films announced as of yet currently have U.S. distribution, some evidence points to the posibility that the fest director doth protest too much. A quick scan of the offerings reveals two glamorous Hollywood actresses (Ashley Judd and Joey Lauren Adams) making their directorial debuts; films starring indiewood mainstays Paul Giamatti; Maggie Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey, Jr; and new offerings from doc-world brand-names Julian Temple and Alan Berliner.

You'll find the full, currently available (several non-competitive categories are being announced over the next few days) lineup at indieWIRE. Cinematical is going to have a full staff on the ground at Sundance this year, so tell us what looks good to you and we'll make sure to work it into our coverage.
