kimbasinger.jpgI haven't really been following the Kim Basinger/Alec Baldwin custody trial, partially because the daily celebrity marriage/birth/divorce train bores me to tears, but mostly because this particular example smacks of stuntwork – just two fading/aging stars attempting to one up one another in divorce court to keep their respective names in print. But certain phrases just pop right out of the feed reader, and "brainwashing daughter with chocolate bars" is one of them. To get you up to speed: Baldwin has dragged Basinger back into court to seek sole custody of their 10-year-old daughter, Ireland, after alleging that the actress has violated their current custody agreement. In court papers, Baldwin claims that Basinger gave the child specially made chocolate bars with "maniupulative messages" printed on the wrappers. One example sited by Baldwin: "To my daughter Ireland, who gave me the strength, courage and tenacity to stand up for myself... Mom."

If you're searching for the scorching example of manipulation there, you're not the only one. According to Baldwin, such inscriptions are examples of "the false message she continues to send our daughter ... that she needs protection from her father." But don't you think that if Kim Basinger wanted to brainwash someone, she might be able to do a better job of it than that?
