Variety reports a short spot on the upcoming Sam Jackson movie Snakes on a Plane (formerly titled Flight121), saying that the film is starting to gather some serious buzz. Apparently, its title has already "inspired songs and merch." And if Variety is to be believed, the phrase is also entering the American pop vernacular as an "it could be worse" substitute. In case you don't know, Snakes on a Plane is a story about...well...snakes. On an airplane. They were released by a hitman attempting to take out an important witness, and the passengers have to "band together" in their efforts for survival.
I don't know if I actually believe Variety about the title of the film entering the vernacular, but I sure as heck am going to do my best to say it whenever possible. Especially in high end social situations, or when surrounded by my "pop cultural" aware hipster friends. They'll be telling me some story about the tough day they had, and I'll cleverly respond "Snakes on a plane!" thus demonstrating my hipness. My friends will all be impressed.
