gretagarbo.jpgAccording to the Guardian, a number of private letters originally written by Greta Garbo were stolen from a public archive sometime in the past year and a half – but apparently, nobody noticed until last week. There are two letters and two postcards missing, both written by a young Ninotchka to a close friend, Vera Schmiterlow, not long after the actress moved to Hollywood in the 1920s. A researcher at Sweeden's Military Archives told a local reporter last week that the correspondances have been missing since last month, but that the time of the theft is unknown; apparently, the documents haven't been checked since March 2004. If I had four letters from Greta Garbo, I think I would probably keep better track of them – or, at the very least, hire a total OCD case with a Queen Christina fetish to stand guard.
