Robert F. NewmyerRobert F. Newmyer, a producer who was widely-known for passionate devotion to his projects, died yesterday of an asthma-induced heart attack. Newmyer, who once mortgaged his home in support of Phat Girlz (a gamble that paid off when the film was acquired by Fox Searchlight), was in Toronto with his current project Breach when he died.

Newmyer (who was known as Bobby) caught the attention of Hollywood with his very first production, Steven Soderbergh's award-winning debut, Sex, Lies, and Videotape. He went on to find success with a wide array of films, including such hits as Training Day, The Santa Clause, and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.
