oscarRemember when Italy's original entry into the Best Foreign Film Oscar pool was rejected? That time, the problem was that the movie didn't take place in Italian, thus violating the Academy's absurd native-language requirement. Well, it's happened again, this time to the Dutch entry. In the case of the Dutch film (Bluebird, directed by Mijke de Jong), the problem is that it has already been shown on TV in Holland, which violates yet another of the Academy's Rules for Foreigners.

What I don't understand is why this notice comes so late - did it just show on TV, like, yesterday? If it didn't, there's really no excuse for the Academy not to mention this until now - not only is it devastating for everyone involved with Bluebird, but it's also is way too late for Holland to submit a replacement film (something Italy was able to do).
