Now that Peter Jackson has finished taking over the world with King Kong, I'm ready to see some news on his next project -- a film of Alice Sebold's novel The Lovely Bones, a story about Susie Salmon, a 14-year-old girl who is raped, murdered and dismembered, told from her perspective after she's in heaven, as she watches her family cope with the aftermath of her disappearance (her body is never found).
Jackson said back in January, when he acquied film rights to the story, that the biggest challenge would be visualizing Susie's heaven, which is deliberately vague in the book. The film will be a major change for Jackson from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong, but I'm really interested to see what he does with it. I absolutely loved this book - read it from cover-to-cover on a plane trip - and I don't want to see the film version screwed up. Thoughts from fans of the book on who should play Susie?
