The Berlin Film Festival has announced the first third of its screening schedule. So far, there are nine films; six, all on the competition slate, are world premieres, and both Syriana and Terrence Malick's The New World will screen out of competition. David at GreenCine Daily has the full list. Highlights include Oskar Roehler's Elementary Particles, based on the novel by Michel Houellebecq, and starring a raft of German stars; Requiem, directed by Hans-Christian Schmid; Candy , directed by Neil Armfield and starring Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish as drug-addled lovers (or, love-addled drug addicts?); and Marc Evans's Snow Cake , starring Alan Rickman as a car-crash victim and Sigourney Weaver as a woman suffering from autism.
