Way back in my sophomore year of college,  I actually spent a summer working in Disneyworld's Magic Kingdom. Yes, I got drunk with Cinderella and The Little Mermaid, but they were some crazy girls come quitting time. Oh, the memories. I remember, during my training, we would enter the park before it opened and go on a bunch of rides in order to learn their history and the way they were operated. I could go on to tell you some dirty little things about Disneyworld, but this post is about Pirates of the Caribbean - my favorite of all rides.

Back then, there was no movie to connect the ride to, and so rolling along the water in a small boat surrounded by mechanical Pirates singing "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" was just about as good as it gets. Now comes the announcement that Disney will be shutting the Pirates ride down in order to update it with characters from the popular film.

That's right, starting in March, both Disneyworld and Disneyland will close the attraction until early summer in order to incorporate a storyline that has Captain Jack Sparrow and his nemesis Barbossa fighting to be the first to claim a treasure. Rest assured, the original gang will still linger around, though the character Davy Jones (from the upcoming Dead Man's Chest) will also be making an appearance.

I'm not so sure how I feel about this one. I mean, I understand why they're doing it (marketing, marketing, marketing), but it will be hard to escape to this so-called magical land when Johnny Depp is staring right back at me. Theme park attraction inspires film. Film inspires theme park attraction. Somehow it all inspires me to just stay home.
