When I tell you that Fox is making a movie about a "convalescent home for old surfers," does it surprise you at all that Ben Stiller is involved? Yeah, me either. The movie, entitled Big Wave, is about "the world's greatest surfer" who retires after a hardcore wipeout, only to return to the waves years later in an effort to save said old surfers home. It was written by Brent Forrester from an idea by Stiller, who is on board to produce (and must be just a little bit crazy to have that sort of thing bouncing around in his head). Though it'll be a while before casting begins, doesn't it seem as if this thing is crying out for at least one Wilson?

The old surfers will be put through their paces by director brothers Emmett and Brendan Malloy who have a background not only in music videos but also in the world of surfing videos as well. Wow, so guys who actually know something about surfing are going to make this thing? Go Fox! In addition, Forrester was a writer for The Simpsons and King of the Hill as well as The Ben Stiller Show, so it's likely the script will actually be funny - that's promising element number two. Plus, the production company behind Big Wave made Dodgeball, and is currently working on Blades of Glory (which, in case you've forgotten, is an ice skating movie starring Will Farrell, Will Arnett, and Jon Heder and therefore must be funny), so again with the promising. I know it's really, really risky to look forward to a surfing comedy, but this one at least seems like it's headed in the right direction.
