For every hundred movies that try to make a spare buck by throwing together a cheap video game time in, one comes along that turns out brilliantly. Typically, we get something like the depressingly designed Starsky and Hutch, but sometimes we get gems like the Spider-Man titles.*

Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has announced a new movie tie-in title which has the potential to turn into one of those rare gems, although I'm disappointed to say it plans to launch only on the PSP, which will limit its market appeal. The game will be based on Frank Miller's 300, the story of the Battle of Thermopylae. The game plans to use the same "highly stylized" look of the film, and will apparently aim at being an action/strategy title. I don't know about you, but I definitely see good possibilities here. Of course, I can also easily see this turning into a halfhearted rush job -- so who knows.

*Yes, Spider-Man is also a comic book, but it is pretty clear the recent VG titles were inspired by the films.
