JoBlo recently posted a very handy roundup of recent release date changes, and it's sort of fun to go through the list and try to figure out the reason for the changes. For example: Is Rocky Balboa's move from February 2007 to December 2006 actually a sign that it's good enough for the studio to want it eligible for Oscar consideration?! A similar move has been made by Pan's Labyrinth -- it shifted from late September to late December -- though the desire for Oscar attention for that one is less surprising. (Yes, people, I know Rocky won three Oscars. That was a long, long time ago, when the series was fresh and new and not on installment six.)

In addition to the changes, the list also features a handful of new dates for films that are nailing down their release timing for the first time (of course, they'll all probably change them later). The Departed will drop in early October and, despite make remake bitterness, I'll freaking be there. (Cant' help it -- I'm a sucker for both Infernal Affairs and -- shh -- Matt Damon in non-comedic roles.) And, for those you looking way ahead, AVP 2: Alien vs. Predator 2 comes out August 10, 2007 -- get that on the calendar now.
