Because we just haven't written up enough on Brandon Routh and Superman Returns here at Cinematical: The Independent's James Mottram has an interesting interview up with the young super-star about tackling the gargantuan role previously filled by George Reeves and Christopher Reeve.  Routh, who was born in Iowa and raised with "Midwest values", alludes in the interview to Superman's resurrection of sorts, and says, "Superman is very Christ-like. There are so many things that point to it being that way. He doesn't care who you are, what you look like or what you believe, he'll help you."

I guess this is a pretty accurate assessment of the character. I've never really thought about the Biblical implications of superhero characters.  What do you think? Is Superman an allegory for the son of God? Or is the boy from the Midwest reading a little too much into his role? And if Superman is Jesus, does that make Kevin Spacey the devil?
