John Zanders, publicist for actor Doug Jones, has hinted at a major casting announcement for his boy Doug. According to Zanders, the announcement will come via this week's major geek convention in San Diego, Comic Con. This, of course, hints that the announcement will have something to do with another geek film property. Jones has already won the hearts of comic book geeks with his performance as Abe Sapien in Hellboy, a flick well received by the fan community. The scuttlebutt (I can't even believe I just used the word scuttlebutt) is suggesting Jones for the semi-CGI role of Fantastic Four's Silver Surfer. It had been thought Galactus' Herald may be entirely CG, but recent announcements from Marvel stated otherwise, and the part is now wide open for rumor and speculation.

This fanboy, for one, would welcome Jones with wide open (figurative) arms into the Fantastic Four film pantheon. He impressed me as Sapien, and he physically matches the characteristics for the CG layover, so he is as good a rumor candidate as anyone (and better than several). I suppose we will know soon, since the announcement is supposed to happen this week. Stay tuned to Cinematical for further developments ...
