Okay, perhaps we can finally put this all behind us. According to reports, Mel Gibson's lawyer appeared alongside the prosecutor today in court to reveal a plea deal which helps the actor avoid jail time. Gibson has agreed to the following terms:

  • Three years probation
  • One year of AA meetings, in which Gibson will have to attend four times a week for the first four months, and then three times a week after that.
  • $1200 in fines and penalties
  • $100 in restitution
  • The entire story in and of itself ... priceless.

Gibson also agreed to appear in a public service announcement on the dangers of drinking and driving. Whether or not that will include a re-enactment of his anti-semitic tirade is yet to be seen. Woody Allen is currently in negotiations to direct. Ahem, just kidding.
