In one of the more bizarre storylines to come out of Hollywood recently, Lars and the Real Girl revolves around a lonely, delusional man (Ryan Gosling) who becomes a little too "involved" with a lifelike doll he purchases on the internet. Yeah, basically, he's not the kind of guy you want to bring home to Mom. Actually -- strike that -- he's not the kind of guy you want to bring home ... period.
Well, word is Emily Mortimer has signed on to play said lifelike doll, in what has to be a very intriguing character to take on. How does one even rehearse for something like that? "Honey, I'm going to pretend to be a doll this evening -- can you play along and pretend to be the really weird dude who's obsessed with me?" Craig Gillespie is set to direct, with production beginning in Toronto this October.
