Even if they've successfully made names for themselves as actors (unless, of course, those names are "Clint Eastwood" and "Robert Redford"), most new writer-directors have to start pretty small their first time out. When, however, the writer-director in question can roll over in bed and pitch his story to an Oscar winner, he's got something of an advantage over all other kids who dream of directing. The lucky man in this case is Irish actor Stuart Townsend, whose Oscar-winning girlfriend Charlize Theronhas agreed to appear in Battle in Seattle, which Townsend will direct from his own script.

The film is set during the 1999 WTO meeting in Seattle, and will examine the chaos around the meeting through "an eclectic group of demonstrators, include environmental activists, doctors, anarchists, attorneys, eco-terrorists and just plain folks."
