Are you a Hellboy (movie, specifically, for the purposes of this discussion) fan? Did you like the character of Agent John Myers? If so, I've got some bad news for you: According to writer/creator Mike Mignola, Myers will not be returning for Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Director Guillermo Del Toro had initially helped create the character for the first movie to give the audience someone slightly less ... well, freaky to relate to in the very unusual Hellboy universe. However, Mignola and Del Toro now feel the universe has been successfully introduced and established, so the audience no longer needs a "normal" character with whom they can relate. They tried to write him back into the script, but simply couldn't make him fit in a way which felt natural or proper.

My general reaction to this goes something along the lines of "Agent Who?" I mean, sure the guy was a good character -- and I'd hate to slam on the work of Rupert Evans -- but when you've got characters like Hellboy, Abe Sapien, and Liz running around, who is going to miss the Agent Normal Guy? Personally, I'm just excited this film is finally happening; look for it to release sometime in the summer of 2008.
