Dubious distinction though it may be, Shaun of the Dead is no longer the only horror film with a link to the national sport of England. I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer is an Australian flick that mixes the slasher film genre with the excitement and fun of cricket! Like most Americans, my knowledge of cricket is limited to that Jiminy fellow from Pinocchio, but I suspect that spiked thingie pictured here is not regulation equipment.

The trailer has just been posted to the movie's otherwise spartan official site, but be warned that this preview would definitely earn itself an R rating. The film's Myspace page provides this synopsis: "A cricket team are dismissed by a moustachioed serial killer with a razor-sharp cricket glove and an arsenal of sharpened stumps. One by one the killer exacts revenge for the torment he endured 20 years earlier." The biggest question this brings up is, why did the filmmaker feel that the killer's "moustachioed" nature was important enough to mention?

I've always been of the opinion that horror and comedy are a tough mix. If done badly the scares cancel out the laughs and/or vice versa. Evil Dead 2 and Dead Alive are two of the best films the sub-genre has to offer, but that path to glory is paved with the moldering carcasses of Return of the Living Dead 2 and Elvira's Haunted Hills. A report over on The Movie Blog says that, despite the title, this is not a comedy but straight horror; the fact that the Myspace page says "I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer takes the horror-comedy genre to new depths of depravity," seems to state otherwise.
