You can tell it's fall in San Francisco because the weather would be considered summer-like in any part of the world -- hot, bright and lovely. And you can also tell it's fall in San Francisco because Costumes on Haight is off the hook busy, with people lining up to get their Halloween stuff. All my costume needs are taken care of -- yes, it's movie related, and yes, you'll get a picture next week, but I don't want to ruin the surprise. I'm doing a fun movie thing tomorrow, too -- seeing The Battle of Algiers on the big screen at the Red Vic. I love the Red Vic -- it's a worker-owned rep cinema, and how cool is that? -- and I'm also excited about a chance to catch Battle of Algiers on the big screen. A friend of mine last night said "Oh, yeah, I've seen that; I watched it during a counter-terrorism foreign studies class." So, yeah, it's a pretty pertinent film to be watching.

Oh, and if you're going to be doing any Halloween movie watching, here are a few you might want to consider: The Thing '82, Invasion of the Body Snatchers '78, Dawn of the Dead '04 and The Fly'86. Seriously. They're four of the scariest movies (in English) I can think of, anyhow. ... And now and then, you need scary movies to take your mind off the scary world.
