As much as this sounds like some nasty April Fools joke, unfortunately we're nowhere near April and the following is far from a joke. Legendary actor Robert De Niro is in final negotiations to star alongside rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent in New Orleans, to be directed by Tim Hunter. We're not sure whether De Niro is doing this on a dare or if he simply owed someone a huge favor, however one thing is for sure -- these two are definitely an odd couple.
The police thriller (previously titled Microwave Park) revolves around a cop (De Niro) who is led to believe his partner died in hurricane Katrina, only to later discover he was shot to death. After he's assigned a new partner (Fiddy), the two begin investigating the murder, but they soon find themselves trapped in a world of police corruption. Though the project was originally set in Los Angeles, everyone shifted over to New Orleans following the hurricane. I take it this decision was fueled by the filmmakers desire to help re-build the city's economy, right?
The first thought that popped into my mind was that this is one of the oddest pairings in recent history. From what we've seen out of 50 Cent, the guy looks tough, but can't act his way out of a paper bag. And De Niro (who, I admit, has been taking on some unusual roles as of late) is, well, that Taxi Driver and everyone's favorite Raging Bull. In your opinion, what are some of the most head-scratching on-screen pairings in film history? And does this one rank up there at the top of the list?
