Just got back from my Christmas holiday and I'm a little late with the column this week. But I brought my Academy screeners with me and had the opportunity to relax and look at a few films again with my family and without the bustle of pre-awards season.
The first thing I noticed was the impulse to watch something again vs. the impulse not to watch something again. I should note that I don't have screeners of each and every awards-season spectacular. Specifically, Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men (16 screens) would have been the first movie I reached for, but Universal never sends screeners (at least not to us in the San Francisco Film Critics Circle -- despite the fact that I chose three Universal films for my ten best list).
