Quentin Tarantino makes violent, hyper-stylized movies (and if you don't think 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Reservoir Dogs' are violent, I'm a little afraid of you). Robert Rodriguez makes violent, hyper-stylized movies -- well, maybe not so much 'The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl,' but 'El Mariachi' was pretty damn gory, and 'Sin City' made even yellow blood look disgusting.
Like chocolate and peanut butter, the two directors are great together ... and they've got the collaborations to prove it. Tarantino wrote (and acted in) Rodriguez's 'From Dusk Till Dawn,' and he also directed a scene in 'Sin City.'
With 'Grindhouse,' Tarantino and Rodriguez take their double act to a new level. It's not one movie, it's two 60-minute features, each an homage to the -- wait for it -- super-violent exploitation films of the '70s. Tarantino's half is 'Death Proof,' a slasher film starring Kurt Russell as a psychopath; Rodriguez's is 'Planet Terror,' a zombie flick with Rose McGowan playing an ass-kicking amputee zombie slayer.
Guys, if you haven't seen McGowan strap a machine gun onto her stump and spin around on the floor, spraying bullets in a circle, you just haven't lived. What's that? You haven't seen it yet? Lucky for you, we've got the new 'Grindhouse' trailer right here. Check it out and tell us what you think. But kids, don't try any of this stuff at home. Being an amputee with a gun for a leg looks way more glamorous than it is. 'Grindhouse' opens April 6, 2007.
