If Kevin Bacon connects to almost every actor or actress in history, Woody Allen must, by now, connect to every actress. Over the years he's made films with just about every big-name lady in the world of cinema. Starting with What's New, Pussycat, which had the likes of Ursula Andress, the filmmaker created the most powerful black book of female talent -- Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, Carrie Fisher, Mary-Louise Parker, Helena Bonham Carter, Mira Sorvino, Helen Hunt and many more. Now, he's officially added Penelope Cruz to his long roster of women.

As Allen continues to look off-shore for his cinematic inspiration, it's no wonder that he turned to one of the biggest internationally renowned European actresses. Shortly after buzz started to spin today about Ms. Cruz as Woody Allen's next leading lady, Variety contacted Cruz's agent/manager and confirmed it. Or rather, they've confirmed that she's been asked to keep her summer calendar free. Whether she holds to that, or not, remains to be seen. The movie, which Allen has still not finished writing, is set to film this summer in Barcelona when he temporarily moves there with his family. As of last summer, his plan was to have bi-lingual film where English-speaking actors play roles as foreigners in the city while, in typical Woody fashion, they also get entangled in love. Did anyone ever think Woody = Spanish flavour?
