Oscar-nominated actor Ryan O'Neal was arrested this weekend for assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. Law enforcement was called to 65-year-old O'Neal's home after midnight Friday where they discovered that he had (allegedly) assaulted his son, 42-year old Griffin O'Neal. Griffin is a B-movie actor with credits including Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go To College, and is more infamously known for being charged with manslaughter over a 1986 boating accident that killed Francis Ford Coppola's son, Gian-Carlo.
The elder O'Neal, who suffers from leukemia, was released on $50,000 bond and has released no statement as of yet regarding the incident. The Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department says that neither O'Neal or his son required any medical attention as a result of this incident. O'Neal, whose film credits include classics such as Barry Lyndon and Love Story as well as multiple Peter Bogdanovich projects, has worked rarely in recent years.
