There seems to be a new trend in Hollywood: if a film's title needs to be spiced up, the words "The Secret Lives" are shoved in to give the overall vibe a sort of tabloid-ish spin. Seeing as we already know about The Secret Lives of Dentists (and I'm crossing my fingers the Weinsteins don't decide to rename their remake, The Secret Lives of Others), Dreamworks feels it's time to learn about The Secret Lives of Road Crews; studio has optioned the spec written by Kevin Lund and T.J. Scott.
Unlike the edgy, dysfunctional suburban drama that was Dentists, Road Crews is a pure action-comedy; plot revolves around a group of road crew workers who must protect the planet from a subterranean alien race ... who, I take it, are a bit scarier and more evil than those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It sounds like a blast, and instead of screaming at those poor guys for causing huge traffic jams while they stand around pretending to drill for four minutes -- we can now salute them for saving the world. Two scribes also recently sold an untitled action script to New Line, which already has Channing Tatum (Step Up) attached to star.
