Now that his sitcom The King of Queens is about to come to an end, Kevin James is looking to bust out his Hollywood suit for a few rounds with the big boys. But does he have what it takes to successfully carry his own film? Well, we're about to find out as it appears James has entered negotiations to star in One Nation Under Bob for Universal Pictures. Shady Acres will produce the pic which centers on an ordinary man who inherits some land, only to learn that it's technically a country unto itself. So, basically, it's like a live-action version of that Simpsons/Family Guy episode -- except, instead of Homer/Peter in charge, it's Kevin James.
Though James hasn't starred in any features yet (except for some occasional voice work and a supporting role in Hitch), he's going to get a running head start this summer when he receives top-billing alongside Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Heck, if Will Smith and Adam Sandler can't help launch this guy's big-screen career, then I don't know who can. I've never had a problem with James; he's kind of like the East Coast version of Larry the Cable Guy -- a blue collar-type comedian for us city folk. And while the plot is somewhat familiar to those who have hung around the animated world for awhile, I'm curious to see how they execute it with James in the lead role. Now that guys like John Goodman and Tom Arnold are a bit past their prime, James is one of only a handful of guys I can see taking on roles like these. Do you think he has what it takes?
