To keep up with our Iron Man firsts, it's time to get a good look at the suit. In March, Erik directed us to the first batch of images for the film, which included lots of weapon shots, but nothing beyond props and scenery. Then Ryan spotted our first look at Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, better known as Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. After that, we started getting to the good stuff and some "dumbasses" with the first, clunky suit that Stark makes. And lastly, well that's my personal favorite -- Downey Jr. all sweaty in suit-making mode. Alas, Iron Man is not about a guy who somehow turns his skin into iron, without making it look any different, so we've got to have a stunning suit.

And holy crap, have they succeeded! To the right you can see a small picture of the suit, which is in all of its full-size glory here. Granted, I'm no expert on the series, but it looks like Iron Man walked right out of the comics and into real life. Has there ever been a more perfect, exact translation? Sure, for some other superhero flicks the powers that be had to update the costumes a bit. Wolverine wouldn't gone over half as well if Hugh Jackman had to wear the yellow suit. But still. I guess this as much attributed to the vision of the artists, who gave Mr. Stark a great suit, and to the costuming department who knew how to make it shine with life. With each hero, these filmmakers keep upping the ante. At some point we have to reach the ceiling, don't we? I'm just glad the ceiling hasn't been hit yet.
