The great thing about NBC's The Office is that it truly is one of the funniest programs currently on television. As a major fan of the Brit version, I was hesitant going in; after all, remember the American version of Coupling? Ouch. However, Steve Carell and his gang have won me over, and I like the little changes they've made to extend the storyline. That said, the bad news is that its cast are slowly becoming major movie stars. Apart from Carell (we all know what he's been up to), folks like John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson are picking up projects left and right; pretty soon, I can't imagine they'll still have time to entertain us boob tubers. Say your prayers people; I give this show one more year before folks start bailing.
For now, Office workers need to shoot their big-screen projects when they're on summer hiatus from the show. Variety tells us that Rainn "Dwight" Wilson has decided which one of his many upcoming projects will shoot first; with production beginning this June, he'll star in The Rocker -- a comedy for Fox Atomic that stars Wilson as a modern day Pete Best. Essentially, like Best, he'll play a drummer who gets the boot from a band right before they hit it big time. Thus, he's forced to pick up the broken pieces of his career and seek out a second chance at super-stardom. Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) will direct off a script written by Ryan Jaffe, and re-written by Wally Wolodarsky (The Simpsons) and Maya Forbes (The Larry Sanders Show). No word yet on the status of Wilson's other on-going projects; those include Girlfriend Experience, Kanan Rhodes: Unkillable Servant of Justice and Bonzai Shadowhands (a comedy that Jason Reitman might take on once he's done with Juno, in which Wilson also stars). Rainn is a busy man these days; at some point something is going to have to give. Will it be his mega-popular TV show or one of the many big-screen gigs he keeps attaching himself to?
