Apart from high cholesterol, depression and heart disease, I guess comedic talent runs in the family too. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Jane O'Brien (sister of the hilarious tall and lanky Conan O'Brien) has signed on to adapt In the Stars, a novel written by Eileen Cook. New Line picked up the book a few months before it hit stands, and now it looks like they're moving forward tapping a former Simpsons writer (who hasn't written for that show? I know, me!) to turn Cook's book into the next great romantic comedy. JC Spink, Mason Novick and Chris Bender are also producing.
Story centers on a bitter ex-girlfriend who, in an attempt to destroy her ex-boyfriend's new relationship, poses as a psychic in order to feed his new girlfriend a bunch of nonsense designed to break the two up. Ah, but when everything comes true, this jolted fake psychic finds herself on the road to fortune teller stardom. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out the rest; I'm sure at some point everything blows up in her face -- right as she finds herself a new man -- and at that time she'll have to dig deep to discover the answers to her own life's questions. All they have to do now is throw someone like Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Kate Beckinsale or Renée Zellweger in the main role, wrap a giant bow around this sucker and ship it out to theaters worldwide. Of course, like the main character, I'm just throwing out some wild predictions here based on a set of Tarot cards I have placed before me. Yup, one features Kate Hudson and the other shows what looks to be an exploding pile of .... Anyway, can't wait to see what the outcome is.
